TaCoNa-Photonics 2011Superlensing Effects in Anisotropic Eutectic Metamaterials in the THz RangeAlexey Basharin1, Maria Kafesaki1,2, Eleftherios Economou1,3, Costas Soukoulis1,41 Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL), Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH),Heraklion, Greece 2Department of Materials Science and Technology, University of Crete,Heraklion, Greece 3Department of Physics, University of Crete, Heraklion, Greece 4Ames Laboratory-USDOE, and Department of Physics and Astronomy, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, USA Abstract: In this paper we present a study of the THz electromagnetic properties of anisotropic eutectic metamaterials of cylindrical polaritonic LiF rods embedded in NaCl host and of polaritonic lammelas of NaF layers in BaF2. It is shown that such systems can be characterized by hyperbolic dispersion relation in the THz regime. Analysis of fields for different rod/layer orientations is carried out and superlensing and super resolution effects are demonstrated and analyzed. Principles of operation are also explained.
